BONUS BLOG!

A bonus blog ... just for you.

This blog is valued at up to 3 marks towards your first quiz. That is, if your response is thoughtful and relevant, you will receive up to 3 marks, which I will add to your current quiz #1 mark. You will have until Sunday midnight - May 1st to respond to this blog.

As you all know, the federal election is set for May 2nd. So what issues are most important to you? Review the platforms for the various parties and think about what is written in terms of the effect on the Canadian economy. A strong Canadian economy will result in more jobs for you when you graduate. Which party do you believe will be the most successful at creating a strong Canadian economy? How does this party propose to create a better economy for you and I?

Your response should be no more than about 300 words.

Have fun! (BTW - I only put the Bloc website in for interest sake - we can't actually vote for them!)

Conservative Party of Canada

Liberal Party of Canada
New Democractic Party of Canada
Green Party of Canada
Communist Party of Canada
Bloc Quebecois

LAST BLOG! - New Federal Budget 2011

Hello everyone.

The federal budget just came down about 2 hours ago and I'm so up to date today. Take a look at the following CBC website. It has some very timely information about the budget. Read it and watch some of the videos. The videos talk about the budget from the conservative's perspective, and the liberal's and NDP's perspective.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/story/2011/03/22/pol-budget-main.html

Identify one component of the budget and briefly explain how that component will impact you.

Have fun! See if you can post something by, say, April 4th - that's a monday.

Our Second Blog for Marks!

Hi everyone. This is our second blog for marks. Remember, you will answer TWO blogs only.

Please comment on the following:

The oil sector traditionally has been one of the largest employers in Alberta. Many of you may, in fact, obtain employment in that sector. The oil sands, however, has been responsible for considerable environmental destruction and decay. Do you think that the provincial government has more responsibility towards ensuring jobs for Albertans or ensuring the natural environment is protected? Consider your response from an economic and a social perspective.

Not long ago, the Government of British Columbia introduced a new blood alcohol limit. Sanctions can be imposed if the driver has a blood alcohol content of .05. This is a change from the previous .08 blood alcohol limit. (See the Government of BC website: http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/osmv/impaired-driving/index.htm ) Do you think the legal alcohol limit should be reduced in Alberta as well? What would be the economic benefits and/or drawbacks? Who would benefit? Who would be harmed? What would be the social benefits and/or drawbacks?  Remember, keep your response short and concise.

Comment on your first blog

Whow! Alot of you have really been travelling the world. You did an excellent job on the first blog. I do want to hear from the rest of you though. Don't forget to take a look-see at what everyone has posted. It is SO interesting the observations that some of you have made about these foreign cities and foreign countries and the prices of things.

I spent the summer in Greece and fell in LOVE with the islands. There were so many interesting places (Paradise Beach Mykonos - for those of you who have been there - you know what I mean) but the MOST interesting place was seeing the Caldera in Santorini.
The ocean is as blue as the picture. The Caldera is the edge of a volcano. The cliff where this church is located must be about 1000 feet off the water. The houses are built right on the cliff. Just beautiful.
I didn't find the prices much different than in Canada - clothing costs were similar as were food costs. Probably because everywhere we went was for tourists.
